Three Players Receive All-Region Honors
Posted 11-2-09 - Three WolfPack soccer payers received All-Region honors from Region IV in the NJCAA for their outstanding performances this season.

The players include first-year defenseman James Bethke, a DePere, Wis. native, first-year forward Thiemoko Kone from Dakar, Senegal and second-year midfielder Serigne Sarr, a former Madison East athlete.

Kone led the team with 17 goals and was second on the team with seven assists. Sarr led the team with nine assists while scoring eight goals this season for the WolfPack


MATC Soccer's Postseason Run Ends Early
Posted 10-26-09 - The WolfPack season came to an end on Oct. 24 as they lost a close 4-3 game against Harper College in Madison. The loss came just three days after an impressive 8-2 win over Milwaukee Area Technical College.

It was a back-and-forth game with MATC striking first. Harper College and MATC traded goals to end the first half with a 2-2 tie. The Wolfpack took an early 3-2 lead in the second half off of Thiemoko's third goal of the game. However, the Hawks scored just one minute later to tie the game for the third time. The game remained tied until Harper College scored the game-winning goal and ended MATC's season.

Kone scored seven goals in MATC's two postseason games, bringing his season total to 17, which led the team this year. Serigne Sarr led the team with nine assists and was tied for second on the team in goals scored with Tim Kennedy at eight apiece.

Goalie Michael Boerboom saved two goals and allowed four in the loss to Harper College. On the season Boerboom saved 28 goals and allowed 25 goals. Goalie Matt Hovey saved 37 goals while allowing 15 goals on the season.


Wolfpack Score Six Second Half Goals
Posted 10-22-09 - The WolfPack offense exploded to score six goals in the second half against Milwaukee Area Technical College in the NJCAA Region IV Tournament Quarterfinals. The WolfPack beat the Stormers 8-2 on Oct. 21 in Madison. This is the third time this season that the WolfPack defeated the Stormers and the first game between the two teams that did not go into overtime.

First-year player and leading scorer Thiemoko Kone led the offensive charge for the WolfPack by scoring four goals, three of which came in the second half. Nick Russell added two goals and two assists while Serigne Sarr and Tim Kennedy each scored a goal and recorded an assist in the thrashing of the Stormers. Cole Hinueber and Erich Wagner each pitched in an assist as well for the WolfPack. MATC played an aggressive offensive style for the entire game, racking up an impressive 14 shots on goal.

With MATC controlling the ball for the majority of the game, the Stormers were limited to just three shots on goal. Goalie Michael Boerboom saved one goal and allowed two goals in the game.

MATC will host Harper College on Oct. 24 at noon in the Region IV Tournament Semifinal game. MATC split the season series with Harper College this year losing the first matchup 4-5 in Palatine, IL on Sept. 2 and winning 5-1 at home on Sept. 25.


Wolfpack Host Quarterfinal Match
Posted 10-20-09 - The WolfPack host Milwaukee Area Technical College at 3:00 on Oct. 21 for the NJCAA Region IV Tournament Quarterfinals.

The WolfPack and Milwaukee Area Technical College went into overtime twice this season. The WolfPack won 1-0 (2OT) on Sept. 16 in Madison and 4-3 (OT) on Oct. 9 in Milwaukee.


WolfPack Let Early Lead Slip Away
Posted 10-19-09 - The WolfPack were winning 3-1 at the end of the first half in their final regular season game against Kankakee Community College on Oct. 17. MATC was shutout in the second half and Kankakee CC scored two goals to push the game into overtime. The Cavaliers struck first in overtime to take down the WolfPack 3-4 at the 96:30 mark.

Thiemoko Kone, Nick Russell, and Tim Kennedy all scored for the WolfPack and Edward Berlanga provided the only assist. Goalies Michael Boerboom and Matt Hovey split time for the fourth straight game. Boerboom saved two goals and allowed three while Hovey saved two goals and allowed one.

MATC finished the regular season with a record of 8-6-1 overall and 5-3-1 in their first season in the North Central Community College Conference. The WolfPack limp into the post-season going 1-4 in their last five games.


MATC Soccer Blanked in Iowa
Posted 10-12-09 - The WolfPack were shutout 0-3 in a non-conference match against Northern Iowa Community College in Mason City, Iowa. The shutout loss came just one day after the WolfPack's overtime win over Milwaukee Area Technical College.

The Trojan defense played tough, limiting MATC to just one shot on goal for the entire game.

The goalie tandem of Matt Hovey and Michael Boerboom for MATC allowed three goals while saving three goals.

The WolfPack (8-5-1) wrap up the regular season on Oct. 17 at Kankakee Community College in Kankakee, IL.


WolfPack Win Overtime Match
Posted 10-12-09 - The WolfPack played extra minutes for the second time this season against Milwaukee Area Technical College on Oct. 9. The game was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation.

Nick Russell scored the game winning goal in overtime to lift the WolfPack over the Stormers 4-3 in Milwaukee. The goal was assisted by Mike Presser and Serigne Sarr.

Goalie Michael Boerboom saved one goal and allowed two goals while Matt Hovey saved two and allowed only one goal for the WolfPack in the victory.

The Wolfpack closed out their first season in the N4C with a record of 5-3-1. MATC has two non-conference games before the post-season begins on Oct. 21.


WolfPack Shutout by Triton College
Posted 10-8-09 - The WolfPack were shutout for the first time this season at home on Oct. 7. Triton College jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead in the 5-0 victory over the WolfPack.

 The defense struggled to slow down Triton College for the second time this season. Goalie Matt Hovey allowed four goals and saved two while Michael Boerboom allowed one goal and finished with no saves.

Triton College, ranked seventh in the nation, swept the season series versus the WolfPack. Triton College outscored MATC 10-1 in the two games. The Trojans defeated the WolfPack 5-1 earlier this season in River Grove, IL.


MATC Soccer Tripped up by Kishwaukee
Posted 10-5-09 - The WolfPack lost 2-4 against Kishwaukee College on Oct. 4 in Malta, IL. The MATC Soccer team had gone seven straight games without losing prior to their matchup versus Kishwaukee College.

Kishwaukee College jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first half and never looked back. The WolfPack cut the lead down to one goal when Erich Wagner assisted a Serigne Sarr goal at the 60:20 mark, but that is as close as MATC got in the second half.

Goalie Michael Boerboom saved five goals, but also allowed four goals. This was the most goals allowed since the WolfPack played Triton College in the third game of the season and allowed five goals.


MATC Soccer Finishes Home Stand With a Win
Posted 10-5-09 - The WolfPack defeated non-conference opponent Waubonsee Community College for the second time this season on Oct. 3 in Madison. The WolfPack scored all five of their goals in the second half and the defense shutout the Chiefs in the 5-0 victory. Serigne Sarr assisted two goals and scored one goal for the MATC soccer team.

The WolfPack went 3-0-1 during their four game homestand and improved their overall record to 7-2-1.

The combination of goalies Michael Boerboom and Matt Hovey shutout the Chiefs by saving two goals and one goal respectively. The WolfPack have recorded three shutouts this season.


WolfPack Surge in Second Half
Posted 10-1-09 - At the beginning of the second half the WolfPack found themselves trailing 1-0 to Joliet Junior College in Madison on Sept. 30. That changed quickly, as the WolfPack scored four unanswered goals during the second half in the 4-1 victory.

The bulk of the damage was done by three players for the WolfPack. Team captain Serigne Sarr scored and assisted a goal, Mike Presser scored twice, and Tim Kennedy scored a goal and assisted two. Presser got the momentum going by scoring just 11 seconds into the second half.

The defense continued to play well for MATC as goalie Matt Hovey saved three goals while allowing one. The WolfPack held Joliet Junior College scoreless in the second half.


MATC Soccer Wins Redemption Match
Posted 9-28-09 - The WolfPack stayed hot as they evened the season series against Harper College by winning 5-1 on Sept. 25 in Madison. MATC has not lost in their last five games, totaling four wins and a tie over that stretch.

Yainier Diaz and Thiemoko Kone combined to score all five goals for MATC. Diaz scored two while Kone added three, with one goal coming off a penalty kick. Kone assisted the two goals scored by Diaz.

Goalie Matt Hovey recorded five saves and allowed one goal. The combination of Michael Boerboom and Matt Hovey has not allowed more than one goal in each of the last five games.


 

WolfPack Net a Tie
Posted 9-24-09 - The WolfPack found themselves trailing 1-0 late in the game against visiting College of DuPage on September 23. Cole Hinueber scored a goal assisted by Thienoko Kone with just under nine minutes left in regulation to tie the game up at 1-1.

The stingy Chapparal defense had allowed only one goal in conference play all season until Hinueber scored to tie the game at the 81:52 mark. The game ended in a 1-1 tie as the WolfPack became the first conference opponent to not lose against the Chapparals.

Goalie Michael Boerboom got his first start since the season opener and played well against College of DuPage. He made five saves and allowed only one goal.


WolfPack Score Twice in First Two Minutes
Posted 9-21-09 - The MATC Soccer team wasted no time against Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, IL on Saturday. Thienoko Kone scored 12 seconds into the game. He then assisted the goal scored by Tim Kennedy 1:09 into the game. The WolfPack defeated the Chiefs 4-1.

Thienoko Kone has had the hot leg for the WolfPack. He has scored six goals in the last five games. MATC is 4-1 during that stretch.

MATC Goalie, Matt Hovey, made all five saves and Michael Boerboom saved three and allowed one goal. The WolfPack improved to 4-2 overall.


WolfPack Earn Conference Win in 2 OTs
Posted 9-17-09 - With the game tied 0-0 after regulation MATC Soccer team went to the first overtime. The game was still tied after the first overtime when finally, with 4:55 left to go in the game, second year defender, Nick Steffel assisted Thienoko Kone on the winning goal.

MATC Goalie, Matt Hovey, made three saves to earn the shutout. The WolfPack improved to 3-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.


MATC Claims First N4C Conference Victory
Posted 9-11-09 - The MATC Soccer team scored two goals in the first half and added one in the second while holding Joliet Junior College to just one goal in Joliet, IL on Saturday.

Freshman goalie Matt Hovey made five saves and held the host Wolves to just one goal while Thienoko Kone, Cole Hinueber and Tim Kennedy all scored goals for the WolfPack. MATC improved to 2-2 and 1-2 in conference play.


MATC Gets Three Goals in First Half, Wins
Posted 9-6-09 - The MATC Soccer team won their first game of the season by scoring three goals in the first half and shutting out the visiting Kankakee Community College Cavaliers.

Nick Russell, Chris Jewett and Thienoko Kone each had first half goals while first year goalie Matt Hovey was helped by the defense in front of him, only having to make two saves in the game on the way to a 3-0 home victory.


MATC Soccer Falls to Harper in Opener
Posted 9-3-09 - The MATC Soccer team lost their season and N4C opener to Harper College in Palantine, IL on Wednesday night, 5-4.

The game was tied 2-2 after the first half and in the second half both teams traded goals to tie the game at 3-3 before Harper scored back-to-back goals and MATC scored a goal late.

Former Madison East standout and current MATC player, Serigne Sarr scored two goals and assisted on another. MATC Goalie Michael Boerboom made five saves and gave up five goals in the loss.

Open Tryouts - Mandatory Meeting Date Set
Posted 6-23-09 - MATC Soccer team has scheduled their Mandatory Meeting for Thursday, July 30 at 6:00 PM in Room 209. This meeting is required for all students interested in trying out for the team, recruited athletes and for all athletes returning for their second season of competition.

Tryouts are scheduled to begin:

Cody Anderson Chosen 1st Team All-American
Posted 12-4-08 - Cody Anderson, a former New Glarus H.S. athlete, became only the second First Team All-American in Madison Area Technical College (MATC) soccer history.  He is the fifth All-American in the last six years for the MATC soccer program.

Cody Anderson, a first year defensemen for MATC, was selected first team NJCAA Division III All-American for his play during the 2008 season.  In addition to his All-American honors, Anderson received all-conference, all-state and all-region honors this season while helping the WolfPack to conference, state and region titles.
