In
2000, MATC Athletics teamed with UW-Children’s Hospital to
develop a community outreach program for MATC student-athletes,
the MATC Athletics Heart-to-Heart Program. Approximately three
times a month, MATC student-athletes travel to the UW-Children’s
Hospital to interact with the young patients. “Bingo Night” has
been a phenomenal success as both the young children and MATC
student-athletes have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Heart-to-Heart
program
is a shining example of how MATC student-athletes give back to
their community and help to put smiles on the faces of those
less fortunate.
“The purpose of the Heart-to-Heart program is to help brighten a day for
children at the hospital,” said Director of Athletics, Steve Hauser. “In
the process our student-athletes learn and grow personally through involvement
in the program. We all gain perspective of the gift that we have been given -
good health and the wonderful opportunity to participate in sports. We are very
proud
of this community service project and our involvement with the UW-Children’s
Hospital.” In addition, several MATC coaches, in their offseason, offer
camps, clinics, and tournaments for local youth.
